Whats up Viewers I hope you are keeping well.  I was in the pub over the weekend and chatting with my mate about movies and we got talking about Black Hawk Down and one of them didn’t realize it was based on a true story, this got me thinking what other movies people didn’t know were based on true stories. Well here you go 5 films you might not have knowing that were based on true stories.

At number 5 is Platoon. The film showing the true horrors of the Vietnam. The Director of the movie Oliver Stone based the film on his own experience in Vietnam. Stone having living through the war made for a very chilling and real like felling to the movie, which was one of the main reasons for winning Oscars for both Best Pitcher and Best Director. If you haven’t seen it yet It is a must watch movie.

At number 4 is Saving Private Ryan. This is a tricky one because some people don’t know it was based on a true story.  Other people know know it is based on a true story but the wrong story. First of all lots of people taught that film was about a family called the Sullivan’s who had 5 brothers killed while in the navy and serving on the one ship, the USS Juneau. Where in fact it is based on the Niland family. who had 4 brothers in the war and it was taught 3 of them were killed in action so the army decided to bring home the last brother as so the family would not have lost all the boys. In the end on of the brothers who was taught to be dead escaped a Japanese POW camp in Burma so the family got 2 of its boy home in the end.

At number 3 is Patch Adams. Patch Adams was played by Robin Williams, took a different look to healthcare and took his time to make his patients laugh believing that it help improve there condition. The movie was nearly spot on with most of his life. So all I can say is watch the movie as it is a good watch.

At Number 2 is Juno. Based on the true of Sara Hylton who got pregnant 2 days after her 16th birthday to her high school boyfriend. 19 years later she wrote a essay called Portrait of An Adoption in which she tells of how hard it was to be a teenage mom to be and how she didn’t want to abort so she went and about trying to get her child adopted.

Before I get to number 1 I want to give a few more movie that you might not know were based on true stories.  Million Dollar Baby, Gangs of New York, and Catch Me if You Can.

So the the number 1 Movie that people might not know were based on true stories is The Conjuring. Now this one might be controversial one to be in the list never mind the top of the list. The reason the it might be controversial is because in the advertising campaign it was claimed that is was based on true events. This helped it become one of the highest grossing horror movies of all time. Even tough it was used in the advertising people still didn’t believe them. There was a couple called the Warren’s and they did investigate the case at the farm house and documented it all as well as the family have come out to say for the most part the film was right. If you believe it, it is one hell of a true story

What did you think of the list, did I leave some important movies out let me know by leaving a comment below. Thanks for reading until next time keep on Viewing.

It’s getting to that time of the year again. The time of year where I look back over the year and list my top 5 movies of the year. This year it is a bit harder because I didn’t get to see as much as I would have like to but the ones I did get to see I really loved so lets get started.

5. Avengers: Age of Ultron was one of the biggest films this year so fare (Star Wars is out next week and has over $50 million in preorder tickets) with a world wide taken of over $1.4 billion. It was a second Avengers movie in the Marvel Univires and pave the way for the new the new line up of Avengers and what Marvel are calling the 3rd phase.

4.Straight Outta Compton. This was the surprise movie of the year none seen this success coming. It grossed over $200 million world wide and even has some Oscar buzz around it. Straight Outta Compton tells the story about of the rise and fall of the gangster hip-hop group N.W.A. This was one of my favourite movies this year. It was one of those movies that just has you glued to the screen the whole time. It would defiantly be a good stocking filler this year.

3. Next is Entourage. It was not the box office smash hit that people taught it was going to be earning over $49 million worldwide, and it got a lot of negative reviews from the critics. I really enjoyed this movie, but I was a fan of the show which ran for 8 seasons so I am a bit biyest towards it. One of the main problems that the critics had with the movie was the way women were portrayed in it. The thing I think the critics missed was the fact it was a comedy. To any fan of the show I recommend it and if you have never seen the show you can still enjoy it.

2. Next up is  Southpaw. Southpaw did well at the box office taken in over $90 million more then trebaling its budget of $30 million. Southpaw was meant to be a sequel to 8 mile which stared Slim Shady but he did not want to do it so they totally rewrote the movie and cast Jake Gyenhaal in the lead which in my opinion was a good idea, because I liked 8 mile but it was a once-off movie and didn’t warrant a sequel. So I’m glad they went down this road instead. It is a good watch and the acting in it is very good.

1.My favourite movie this year is The Martian. It was a big hit at the box office with a world wide taken of over $545 million. It was also a critical success gang rave reviews with some saying that it was one of Matt Damon’s best performance and others saying that it will be a big contender at the Oscars next year. I loved this story of servieal and science. This is defiantly a stocking filler  most people will thai you for.
