This week we are taking a look at Money Monster staring George Clooney, Julia Roberts, and Jack O’Connell, and it was directed by Jodie Foster. The first thing that came to mind about this film was (wow it is a great cast) the next thing that came to mind was (wow she is a great director), the next thing to come to mind was (its a good story line), and the last thing that came to mind was I have to see this movie. Well that is what I did.
First of all as I watched the first 5 minutes all I could think was bloody hell George Clooney is such a dick in this, I found this weird as I have only really seen him as the smooth talking nice gym even when he was playing a thief in oceans 11 you could not but love him (wow this is sounding like a love letter to George Clooney, but I am getting to a point so stay with me) but to see him jumping around on stage like a fool was a bit tuff to watch, but as the film goes on you can see why it was played like that, and it worked.
I better give you a quick rundown of the story line. George Clooney plays Lee Gates the host of a financial advise/entertainment show that tell you what stock to buy and why, but he does this with back up dancers costumes and stupid catch phrases like “have some balls”. Underneath it all he is a looney man that claims that he has never eating dinner alone since the 90’s. Then you Julia Roberts who plays Patty Fenn who is the director of the show and tries to keep Lee on a short leash but it is a tuff job as he doesn’t want to listen to her the whole time which leads to Patty taking a job at an other station. One of the stock tips that was given on a pass show has bombed and a lot of people lost a lot of money, entry Jack O’Connell’s character Kyle Budwell who lost 60k in the bad stock tip and he want to know why so he goes into the studio during a live show and hold the place up with a gun and a bomb until he gets some answers.
As I said at the start It was tuff to watch Clooney that Lee at the start of the movie but I think this was well set up by Forster because she made you think wow this guy is a very annoying but as the movie goes on you can see his character start to change and grow, and start thinking about someone other then himself. The transition is subtle but fast at the same time and also helped along by Roberts character Patty. Now I could be wrong in this but that is the beauty of movies you can take whatever you want out of them and if it makes sense to you then nothing else maters
I taught the cast was great in this movie with Clooney and Roberts work well together like they always do. This time with the added bounce of having up and coming star Jack O’Connell there as well. O’Connell gave a great performance as the hostage taker. They all gave great performances that was brought out by the director Jodie Foster. She paced the film well and brought the best out of her actors. Did you see Money Monsters, if you did let me know what you taught of it by leaving a comment below in the comment box.You can also check out more movie reviews here. Until next time keep on Viewing.
