Dangerous Minds Trailer thumbnail

Hi and welcome to this weeks Saturday Night Stay In Movie. If this is your first time to hear about S.N.S.I.M it is simple.

The way I see it there is two groups of people on a Saturday night. The ones that go out partying and having fun and the ones that stay in for whatever reason. S.N.S.I.M is for the second group of people.

I will suggest a movie that you could watch with that will pass the time for you.

This week it is Dangerous Minds staring Michelle Pheiffer as a former Marine who get a job teaching a class of at risk underachieving students that has no respect for authority.

Screen Shot 2016-08-12 at 17.19.21

She must gain the respect of her class before she can start teaching them anything. This was based on the autobiography of LouAnne Johnson a retired U.S Marine who took up teaching at Carlmount High School in Belmont California.

The movie was a panned by critics when it was first released but went on to make over $170 million at the box office.(It just shows you that reviews are just the opinion of the writer and just because a movie gets bad reviews doesn’t mean its a bad movie but some reviews do get it right like Fantastic Four)

I didn’t see this movie when it was first released It must have been 5 years later when I first got to see it, but when I did finally get to watch it I did really like it.

Screen Shot 2016-08-12 at 17.19.46

I taught Michelle Pheiffer was very good in it and I just liked the story over all. I don’t want to call it a feel good movie but in a way it is. You have a person trying to do the right thing and help the kids out and to a certain extant it works but she cant change them all. Check out the trailer

When you talk about Dangerous Mind you have to talk about that song as well which became an instant classic. Coolio’s Gangster Paradise. Too this day when it comes on the radio I cant help but sing along.

Have you seen Dangerous Minds if you have let me know what you taught about it by leaving a comment below. Hi and welcome to this weeks TV Rewind. If this is your first time reading TV Rewind, then welcome. The Idea of TV Rewind is to look back at some of the shows that we used to watch growing and maybe still watch today. This week is no different.

This week we are going back to 1987 and we are taking a look at Star Trek The Next Generation.

Star Trek The Next Generation was the follow up too the original Star Trek show. It first aired in 1987 and ran fro 7 years and 4 movies. The show stared Patrick Stewart, Wil Wheaten, and  Whoopi Goldberg to name a few. It was set 70 years after the end of original Star Trek finished. This was the sixth crew to take charge of the famous Enterprise.

Screen Shot 2016-08-11 at 08.49.17

The show enjoyed the same success that followed the original show and became one of NBC’s most watched show on their network. It ran for  over 170 episodes.

The show was cancelled after the seventh season which was a shock to the cast and crew because it was enjoying constantly high ratings, plus the cast was contracted for an eight season. Many believe it was cancelled because the cost of wages would get to expensive also there was movies planed and the network taught the movies would perform better if there wasn’t a show on at the same time.

When the Next Generation came out it cause a divide in the Star Trek fans. They could not agree on who was a better captain, was it Captain Kirk, Star Trek Original (William Shatner) or Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart) Which was your favourite let me know by leaving a comment below.

Screen Shot 2016-08-11 at 08.51.24

Over all Star Trek The Next Generation was a much loved show and could have gone on for a few more seasons if it wanted. Did you watch Star Trek the Next Generation, if you did let me know what you taught about it by leaving comment below in the comment box. Hi and welcome to this weeks Saturday Night Stay In Movie. Now most of you will know what this is about but I will explain to the people that don’t know what the Saturday Night Stay In Movie is about. It is quite simple, there is two types of people on a Saturday night the people that go out parting and the people that stay in for what ever reason, well this blog is for the second group of people on a Saturday night the ones that stay in for what ever reason. I suggest a movie that you can watch to pass the time, see didn’t I tell you it was simple.

Well this week we are going al the way back to 2001 for our Saturday Night Stay In Movie. It is The Last Castle. In my mind this is one of the most underrated movies ever (but that is just my opinion) It stars Robert Retford, James Gandolfini, Mark Ruffalo, and Delroy Lindo. Retford stars as Lieutenant General Eugene Irwin, a legendary solder who on his last mission disobeyed a direct order from the commander and chief ( the President) and got 8 of his men killed. He was sentence to 10 years in the Castle Military Prison. He just wanted to keep his head down and do his time but it becomes clare that he has and other battle to fight this time agents the warden of the person Col. Winter (James Gandolfini), who is ruling over the prison.

Screen Shot 2016-07-15 at 12.15.20Screen Shot 2016-07-15 at 12.15.07

When this came out in 2001 it was meat with mixed reviews and only made 27 million at the world box office, but I think this was due to the fact that 9/11 had just happens a month earlier and the world was not sure what what was going to happen. I didn’t find this film until 2005 when I was looking for a movie to watch in my local extravsion I took a chance on it and Im glad I did I loved it. The acting was top class the story was good and the action was very good. Altho now that I look back at it there was one big hole in the story, How did the prisoners get all the weapons made and hidden while under the watch of the grads. Im sure it was filmed but ended up on the cutting room floor for what ever reason.

Over all this is a good movie that is well acted. I think you will enjoy it. Let me know what you think about it by leaving a comment in the comment box below. Hi and welcome to this weeks Saturday Stay In Movie for those of you that have never seen the Saturday Night Stay in blog yet, it is pretty simple. I suggest a movie that people can watch as they stay in on a Saturday night as everyone else goes out partying. See I told ye it was simple well this week we are going with relatively new movie, Its Straight Out of Compton.

This was a huge movie in 2015. No one was excepting Straight Out of Compton to be as big as it was and I think that was part of its success because everyone didn’t now what to expect going into it and what they got was a bloody good movie. For those of you who have not seen it here is a quick run down for you. Straight Out of Compton tells the true story of the rise and fall of Gangster Rap group N.W.A. even though it was about the group it mainly focused on the relationship between Easy E and Ice Cube.

Screen Shot 2016-07-01 at 16.40.00

The first 2 acts of the film was great it show the lad where they came from and what they had to deal with on a daily bases from gangs and the cops. the last two acts is where the movie went for the traditional move line (start of in a bad place in act one. Act work hard to get out. Act 3 there is a stumble. Act you work hard again and everything ends happily ever after.) the last two act show that there isn’t always a happy ending. I’m not fully sure of the back story of N.W.A as I was a bit too young when this all happened so I just went in to watch a movie, which I really enjoyed. There was no Oscar worthy performances in the film, I think, but there was no bad acting either all in all it was enjoyable movie. I give this movie 4 out of 5.

Have you seen it yet if you have let me know what you taught about it by leaving comment below. Hi everyone how are you keeping. It is time for an other film review. First a bit of background about last weekend. Well, I was at a music festival in Bundoran Co. Donegal and it was one of the best music festivals I have been at. It had an attendance of just over 5000 people and some grate performers like Gavin James, Ash, and Tinie Tempah to mention just a few. What has this got to do with a movie review, well when I got home after 3 days of partying, I was the worse for wear and I wanted to know nothing about the outside world I just wanted to be left alone I could get through the hangover from hell. My way of doing this was to watch movies for the day.

I had found 3 movies on Sky Movies on Demand that I taught I would have liked, I was wrong for the most part. The first movies was the Exorcism of Molly Hartley. what can I say about this movie other then it sucked. I was expecting to be scared out of my mind but instead I was just board out of my mind. It wasn’t scary the make up wasn’t the best which aded to it not being scary and the acting of the priest was just phoned in, well that was just my opinion, plus the story line was pretty much the same as all the other movies like this. Just to give you an in site to what dose scare me The Exorcist from start to finish it a movies that I still watch with the lights on. Ok so the first choice wasn’t great time for the second one, The Fantastic Four. I have heard a lot of bad things about this movie so much so that I taught there would be no way a studio would release a movie this bad unfortunately I was wrong and they did. I will start with the acting It wasn’t great next up was the story telling it really sucked an hour in and I was like “will you give them there powers all ready” shortly after that I have done something I haven’t done in a long time and I switched it off I was done with that movie. I usually tell people take a look for yourself  but I’m not going to bother with this one as if I do you will be pissed of with me for wasting your time.

Screen Shot 2016-06-29 at 10.33.53Screen Shot 2016-06-29 at 10.34.27

It wasn’t looking good at this point until I came to the third movie Paper Towns. Paper Towns comes from the novel of the same name, and also brought to you by the same people that brought you The Fault in Our Stars. The story is that the Geek in high school likes the most popular girl in high school who just happens to live next door. One night she comes into his room and ask him for help with a few things but docent tell him what, he reluctantly goes with her to pull pranks on people who has done her wrong and they have a great night doing it. The next day the Girl disappears but leaves clues to where she has gone and so the boy sets out trying to find her and bring her back with the help of his friends and they set in on a road trip. Yes I know a road trip in a coming of age teen romance movie it has been done, but it works

Screen Shot 2016-06-29 at 10.32.38

The reason it works is because of the characters that are going on the road trip you have the 3 geeky boys and the missing girls best friend (a popular girl) and a girlfriend of one of the guys. I will say it again the reason this movie works is because of the characters making it fun. You have Austin Abrams playing Ben Starling he is that friend you had in high school who always lies about the women he has slept with and just has a lot of confidence in the face of rejection. Then you have Justice Smith playing Marcus Lincoln he has a girlfriend but he is so afraid of messing it up that he will not introduce her to his friend are family. Then you have Nat Wolff’s character Quentin Jacobsen who is chasing down Margo the Missing girl played by Cara Delevingne. The you have the misunderstood popular girl played by Halston Sage, She wants to be seen as more then the good looking girl.

Screen Shot 2016-06-29 at 10.31.32

Over all I like this movie it was well told and kept you engaged. It wasn’t the best movie in the world but it pass the time and helped me over my hangover. Now It might have been the fact that the first 2 movies were so bad that I would have watched paint dry, I don’t know but I would recommend this movie for a date night movie. If you have seen it let me know what you taught of it by leaving a comment in the comment box below. You can also check out some other reviews here. Until next time viewers keep on Viewing

It is that time of the week again, it is time for TV Rewind. TV Rewind is where I take a look back at some of the shows that rant on the air any more, (you can check out some of the other TV Rewinds here) Well this week we are looking at a show theta finished up in 2012, Weeds. Not a lot of people might have heard of Weeds as it was showing on Sky Atlantic when the channel first launched but it only showed up to season 6. Netflix has not got it available in Ireland either, which is a pity because it was a very good show.

The show centres around a suburban mother who’s husband passes away and she start falling behind on her bills. So as she doesn’t get through out of her house she starts dealing weed. and with help of some of her crack pot neighbours. As you would think she dose piss a lot of people of which her new job and as each season goes on the story just more strange but at the same time you can believe that it all was happing.

One of the main reasons I like Weeds is because of the lead lady Mary-Louise Parker. This was not the first show that I have seen her in as she was also in one of my favourite show ever The West Wing. She is very strong actress that can hold a show by herself but in weeds this is not the case as she has a strong supporting cast in the form of Justin Kirk and Kevin Nealon as her brother in-law and lawyer. This comedy drama is not people that blush at the sound of bad language as it is full of it as well as other things so in other words don’t let the kids watch it with ya.

Screen Shot 2016-05-25 at 09.43.44

An other thing I loved about this show was the storytelling and how they got from one place to the other and all the stuff they had to deal with in-between from rival drug dealers to a Mexican Cartel all the while being on the run from the FBI. From start to finish it is a show that you can’t take your eyes off and if you haven’t seen it before then it is defiantly worth a look.

A few months ago I wrote a post about Gilmore Girls getting picked up by Netflix so they could bring it back (check out the article here). This got a lot of people excited about the prospect because according to the fans of the Gilmore Girls it never got a proper ending.

First of all lets start with what we know Netflix has said that they are making four 90 minutes episodes, nearly a full seasons worth of Gilmore Girls. They still haven’t set a release date. There hasn’t been much released in the way of plot line either but what they have released is the list of how is returning to the show.

lets take a look first of all the main charters of the show Lorelai (Lauren Graham), Rory (Alexis Bledel) and Emily (Kelly Bishop) have all singed on to return. Luke played by Scoot Patterson ( Lorelai’s love interest) is in as well as ex-husband Christopher played by David Sutciffe. Then we move onto Rorys love interests  starting first with Dean (Jared Padalecki), Jess (Milo Ventimiglia) and of course Logan (Matt Czuchry) will all make an appearance. Rory’s friend Paris is singed on as well as Stars Hollow regulars Michel, Miss Patty and Kirk.

Screen Shot 2015-06-07 at 22.13.39

One notable absence is Sookie St. James played by Melissa McCarthy. Melissa is one of the most successful actors to come out of the Gilmore Girls staring in her own show Mike and Molly and Staring in a number of hit movies like Heat and Bridsmaids. She is also staring in the upcoming reboot of Ghostbusters, it is because of this she said she couldn’t come back to the show until now, the announcement was made yesterday that she will be returning to the show after all. She made the announcement on the Ellen DeGeneres show.

We have been given one peace of news on the plot line is that because of the death of Edward Herrmann in 2014, Who played Richard, show writers have decided to face it head on and showing how Emily is dealing with her husband and it doesn’t sound like she is handling it will at all. So there you have it all the news so fare on the Gilmore Girls come back. Keep checking back here for more news and let me know who was your favorite charter is by leaving a comment below.

Hi Viewers and welcome to an other Tv Rewind Last weeks TV Rewind was 24, check it out here, which reminded me that one of the stars of the first few seasons, Dennis Haysbert who played the president in, to star in his own show, The Unit.

The Unit ran from 2006-2009 and was about a black ops team who were sent around the world on top secret missions that no one else could do. Each week was a new mission, but also showed how the solders families dealt with leading secret lives. The show ran for 4 seasons and was cancelled in 2009 ending on a cliff hanger, with Molly Blane, giving her husband, Jonas ( the team leader) a choice her or the Unit. There was a 5 and final season planed by executive producer Shawn Ryan but it never got the green light which is a shame because it wold of being nice to see how the story ended and what happened to the characters but that is show business.

Screen Shot 2015-10-08 at 09.01.43

The Unit had some grate actors in it as I said at the top Dennis Haysbert stared along side Robert Patrick, Max Martini, Scoot Foley, Audrey Marie Anderson, Abby Brammell, and Regina Taylor, to say but a few and together they made up a great with a great executive producer Shawn Ryan (the creator of The Shield).

The show had everything that I liked a lot of action and a lot of drama, and each week you got a new mission/story line, with the overall story line of family life in the Unit in the background. The way I would describe The Unit is Army Wives For the lads. Have you aver seen The Unit, let me know what you taught of it by leaving comment below. Hi Viewers and welcome to this weeks Video of The Week. I went back over all the Videos of The Week and I noticed that I have never had a short documentary as the Video of The Week, so I went looking for one and this is what I came up with, A short documentary called The Art of Fighting. It is directed by Gavain Browne and produced by Alex Barnes and Gavain Browne. It tells the story of a refugee Hussain Sadiqi who fled the remote mountains of central Afghanistan as the Taliban stepped up their violin persecution of his people. This was to be the start of Hussain’s epic 20000km journey to Australia. 10 years later, this self confessed “nomad” is about to give up his new life in his new country to pursue a life long dream – a dream that was born over 20 years ago, when young Hussainn first saw a torn and battered picture of his life long hero, Bruce Lee.

This documentary has been selected in over 15 festivals and nominated for four awards and one award, Audience Award – Best Film, 2012 West End Film Festival. This doc is shoot beautifully, and is so well told it is hard to believe that is only 11 minutes long. It also a tale of hope even having to flee his country Hussain was able to follow his dreams, which show no mature what your situation is as long as you want something bad enough and you are willing to work hard for it, any thing is possible.

Have a look at it and let me know what you think by leaving a comment below also check out last weeks Video of The Week here. Thanks for reading I will see ye all next week until then keep on Viewing.

Hi Viewers I hope ye all had a good weekend. I did I went to see Straight Outta Compton. I didn’t know what to expect when going into the movie I did know that it was doing very well at the box office and that I liked their music so that was enough for me.

Screen Shot 2015-09-07 at 18.36.27

Im glad I did not research the film before I went to see it because people seem to love it or hate it there doesn’t seem to be any middle ground. So because I didn’t  look for reviews I was able to go in and just enjoy it and not be watching for the bits that the reviewers liked or did not like.

This is what I taught about the movie, I really enjoyed it for the most part. The first 2 acts of the film was great it show the lad where they came from and what they had to deal with on a daily bases from gangs and the cops. the last two acts is where the movie went for the traditional move line (stat of in a bad place in act one.
